Don't you just love quick little tips for decorating your home?
I look for very few materials required, natural elements and rather inexpensive!
For this little centerpiece,
I chose the wooden bread bowl,
one bag of Gala apples
and
a few faux berry picks.
Voila!!
We so remember those crisp autumn evenings
when it was time to sit down to dinner
and Mother was serving
her Homestyle Apple Crisp.
This takes minutes to prepare
and has always been a family request in the fall.
We serve ours with a scoop
of
Carmel Butter Pecan Ice Cream!
Estelle's Homestyle Apple Crisp
5-6 medium granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
8 tablespoons cold butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup quick cooking oats
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Arrange prepared apples into greased 8 inch square pan or round baking dish.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine vanilla extract and all dry ingredients consisting or brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix and stir well then spread mixture evenly over sliced apples.
Slice cold butter into 1 T. squares and place over the top of the crisp.
Bake on center oven rake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 35 minutes until apples and tender and top of apple crisp is golden brown. Serve warm!
