Hillsong Church has said it is not the reason behind Justin Bieber cancelling the rest of his Purpose world tour suddenly on Monday.
On Friday, in a statement to the Daily Mail, a rep for the Pentecostal megachurch said, "The recent announcement by Justin Bieber about his tour does not involve Hillsong Church."
This is the first statement from the church after Beliebers were left DEVO following Justin's abrupt end to the rest of his concert schedule, effectively immediately.
At the time Bieb's reps released a statement citing 'unforeseen circumstances' as the reason for the sudden decision but later the 23-year-old's long-time manager Scooter Braun suggested that the singer's 'soul and well-being' were at stake.
In a lengthy Instagram post about Justin Braun wrote: "A man's soul and well-being I truly care about came first and we must all respect and honour that."
The "soul" comment also ties in with JB's social media lately. Fans have noticed that the Sorry singer has been very preoccupied with reconnecting with his faith and he's been spotted in Bondi keeping company with the Hillsong crowd, including hanging out with hip with Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz over the past few months.
Picking up on the religious vibes Bieber was putting down TODAY's Richard Wilkins also claimed earlier this week to have a scoop that suggested the star was gonna be starting his own church.
"I am led to believe that the real reason he has come off the road is because he wants to reconnect with his faith and he may be even planning to start his own church," Richard Wilkins told Today Extra.
Wilko added: "We know that he was in the country a few weeks ago having meetings and attending the big Hillsong convention that they had here. [He's] very close to a lot of the Hillsong people. Whether he's looking at teaming up with them in something of a more permanent situation or doing some sort of religious activity on his own – starting his own church – we're not quite sure, but that's the word from an inside source."
But we don't know. After touring his Purpose album for more than a year it wouldn't be that shocking if Justin was just burnt out and in need of a break. And while fans might be disappointed, if they really loved him they'd let him take care of himself rather than pushing himself too far.
